Grooming is a normal cat behavior, involving licking and nibbling of the hair and skin, and facial rubbing with the forepaws.

Dr Griffiths graduated in 1984 from the University of Bristol, following which she worked for 18 years in small animal general practice. She was awarded the RCVS Certificate in Veterinary Dermatology in 2000 and now provides a referral dermatology service from two private UK veterinary hospitals. Since 2007, she has also worked at the University of Nottingham School of Veterinary Medicine and Science, where she is assistant professor in Veterinary Dermatology. In this role, she teaches dermatology to veterinary undergraduates and delivers continuing professional development courses to veterinary practitioners.
